Zürich ist fantastisch, Lukas! Aber pass auf: Viele Touristen denken, dass Zürich die Hauptstadt der Schweiz ist. Das stimmt aber gar nicht. Die Schweiz hat offiziell keine Hauptstadt. Bern gilt als Bundesstadt, weil dort die Regierung sitzt. Das ist ein wichtiger Unterschied.

Nicht nur! Laut Wikipedia ist Zürich zwar das wirtschaftliche Zentrum, aber die Schweiz ist insgesamt sehr dezentral organisiert. Es gibt 26 Kantone. Man kann sich das wie kleine Staaten in einem großen Staat vorstellen. Diese Kantone haben viel Autonomie — das bedeutet Selbstständigkeit.

Not just that! According to Wikipedia, Zurich is the economic center, but Switzerland is generally organized very decentrally. There are 26 cantons. You can imagine them like small states within a large state. These cantons have a lot of autonomy — which means independence.

Nein, einen Pass brauchst du natürlich nicht! Aber bei den Sprachen hast du recht. Die Schweiz hat vier Amtssprachen: Deutsch, Französisch, Italienisch und Rätoromanisch. In Zürich spricht man Deutsch, genauer gesagt Schweizerdeutsch. Das klingt für uns Deutsche am Anfang fast wie eine Fremdsprache.

Es ist leider wirklich teuer. Die Schweiz gehört zu den Ländern mit den höchsten Lebenshaltungskosten weltweit. Aber dafür ist alles sehr sauber und funktioniert perfekt. Die Züge der SBB zum Beispiel sind fast immer pünktlich. Das ist Luxus, für den man eben bezahlt.

That's why many international organizations, such as the Red Cross, have their headquarters there. The country has been officially considered neutral since the Congress of Vienna in 1815.

Vergiss nicht, auch mal in die Altstadt von Zürich zu gehen. Dort sind die Gassen eng und es gibt viele kleine Cafés. Es ist nicht alles nur modern und gläsern. Die Geschichte der Stadt geht bis in die Römerzeit zurück, als sie noch Turicum hieß.

Don't forget to visit Zurich's old town. The alleys are narrow there and there are many small cafes. It's not all just modern and glass. The city's history goes back to Roman times when it was still called Turicum.
